“February – Direct Sow (under cloche)”

So I mentioned my seed planting system and I’m on schedule so far. I little break from my Yard, Garden and Patio show recuperation (tea, cinnamon toast, NYT, nap, repeat) brought me out into the sunshine to plant some seeds under a long cloche:

Wild Arugula
Spinach ‘Olympia’
Spinach ‘Bloomsdale’
Provencal Winter salad mix from Territorial Seed
Radish ‘Easter Egg’
Baby Bok Choy
Early Mizuna
Broccoli Raab
Mustard ‘Giant Southern Curled’
Pea ‘Oregon Sugar Pod’

The cloche is in the center of the photo, with the plastic cover off. The support hoops are quince branches stuck into the ground.

The soil temperature is still cool, but I’ve had the cloche set up for a few weeks so the soil is not too wet, and the drainage in the raised area is good. It may or may not be too early for some of these, but I won’t know unless I try it out. If we have something good to eat in 30 days it will be totally worth it.

Next I will tackle the pile labeled “February – Greenhouse.”
