Solenostemon ‘Coco Loco’

Coleus ‘Coco Loco’
LAMIACEAE, The Mint family

Today I talked with our neighbor Rebecca about her houseplants. She has a fern and a Thanksgiving cactus that were her grandmother’s. I gave her some begonias and coleus for her windowsill. My great-grandmother always grew coleus in her dark living room in vases of water.

This coleus is one of the interesting new ones. The large leaves have an irregular checkerboard of chocolate colored squares. Other neat varieties are ‘Fish net Stockings’, with purple veins over light green leaves, ‘Handy Andy’, a multicolored orange patterned leaf, ‘Rustic Orange’, which is very rusty, and ‘Merlot’, quite purple. These can all tolerate full sun, another new feature.
