I’ve been working on intricate, embroidery-like patterns of plants, flowers, seeds and insects. Some are individually painted on a panel, like a botanical specimen held for close observation. Others are in cloud or island shaped groupings with subtle layers of color. Read more about the work in my artist statement: artist_statement_mulysa.pdf
All works are in graphite and oil paint on panel except where noted. Click on thumbnails to see larger images.
You can purchase my work at hunt & Gather in the Pearl District.

Sneak peek of a new project: Four seasonal botanical etching from 9×12″ copper plates. Here are details of the ‘first state’ proofs of two of them. Next the plates will be coated with fine resin and etched in 5 to 10 or more stages to add gradations of value. Then I will print another layer (or layers) on top with loose washes of color. That is the plan anyway.. part of the fun of printmaking is the transformation that happens along the way.

Oil and pencil, 40″ x 40″
This is one of a series of paintings about my garden of nine years. Here the figure starts and garden and leaves it, cataloging her memories of it. These works were so interesting so show because viewers had such different interpretations of the narrative, and many wanted to tell me the story they saw.
