Preserving

In year’s past we’ve made many kinds of jams and jellies, but we’ve branched out into canning our veggies, pickles and whole fruits. It’s going to be a happy kitchen this winter.

This is an inspiring book: The Urban Homestead. It’s a fun read with overviews of a vast array of home-related topics from bread and pickle making, chicken and bee keeping to transportation and energy efficiency. It doesn’t go to in-depth on any of the subjects, but makes them seem approachable and presents a practical vision of how all these skills and practices can fit into an urban life. The authors run an interesting blog called Homegrown Evolution.

About Mulysa

I love my work as a landscape designer and artist. When I'm not planning homesteads or working in the studio, you'll find me hiking, photographing, gardening, baking, cooking vegetarian meals with friends, reading and working on sustainability issues...with my baby on my hip in Portland, Oregon.
