Dichondra argentea ‘Silver falls’

CONVOLVULACEAE, The Morning glory family

I noticed this trailing pewter colored plant in a striking planter at Cornell Farms Nursery. It was paired with dark red nicotiana, deep purple heuchera, around a compact hibiscus with large, dark red flowers. The pot was a dark blue-green, about 24 inches in diameter.

Dichondra can also be grown as a ground cover, where it will be 2 to 4 inches tall and spread widely. In a container it can trail an impressive 3 to 6 feet. It is a hardy perennial in zones 9-11, but is grown as an annual elsewhere. It likes full to partial sun and well-drained soil.
