Holodiscus discolor

Ocean spray
ROSACEAE, The Rose family

Mysterious and beautiful plant that seems fitting to represent a day at the sea that should have been lovely but was just off. Uncomfortable with being mellow. Acute disappointment follows unreasonable expectations, reminds me to be open to unfolding possibilities. The Ocean spray grows all along the roadway. It has just finished flowering. The dried blossoms hang from the branches like aged lace handkerchiefs. The leaves are reminiscent of some spireas; they have shallow, rounded lobes that are a soft grey underneath. They are deciduous.
