Pink Broom
FABACEAE, The Pea family

Sometimes I can’t write the story of the plant of the day. I can’t tell what things mean, not from this close. There is a pink broom around the corner. It was there all winter, but just today it revealed itself in a shower of pale two-lipped blooms on delicate branches. This was one of my favorite plants in Italy. It bloomed in the hills and was sold in all the flower shops. It’s such an elegant and unassuming flower.

It is the first day of a new job. Anything could happen. Taking the bus and walking along the streets in the spring air, I feel free, crossing the city in a series of decisive moves.
