Stachyurus pracox ‘Rubifolius’

Spiketail redleaf

Another shrub with dangling flowers, maybe it’s a kind of jewelry fetish?
This Japanese native grows slowly to 10 feet tall and wide, with a horizontal branching habit. Tolerant of light shade, Sunset recommends planting under a deciduous tree to shelter the buds from late frosts. The 3 to 4 inch long chains of flowers are papery and pale. A 1-gallon shrub is $14.99
