Lewisia cotyledon ‘Regenbogen’

Rainbow bitterroot
One of the many plants named for Meriwether Lewis, this little alpine succulent is a cultivar with mulitple stalks of brightly colored blooms. At the Berry Bot., it lives in the raised, covered alpine house so that it doesn’t drown in Portland’s seemling endless rains. Supposedly it blooms in spring and summer, but it started blooming here about five weeks ago, maybe it is confused, maybe we are confused. It likes full to partial sun, and requires excellent drainage. Its mature size is about 10 inches tall and up to two feet wide. It grows well in containers. Hardy in zones 6-8.
